Estes Park has a rich history.  The area has been frequented by Native Americans for thousands of years.  Old Man Mountain is an ancient vision quest site in Town .   European fur trappers with the American Fur Company and the Hudson Bay Company where thought to have frequented the area in the early 1800's.  Kit Carson spent the winter of 1840-1841 trapping animals like the beaver.

Among the first permanent settlers to the area was Joel Estes in about 1860.  Some historical characters with ties to Estes Park include Lord Dunraven, John Wesley Powell, Isabella L. Bird, Major Stephen Long, Rocky Mountain Jim, Enos Mills, and F.O. Stanley.  The Town has many historical structures like the Stanley Hotel and the downtown Park Theater.  The Park Theater is the oldest continuously operating film theater west of the Mississippi.

Today, Estes Park is a great place for locals and visitors alike.  It's an arty and authentic mountain Town.  With beautiful scenery and weather; easy access to Denver and Boulder; excellent shopping, dining, recreating and lodging; a rich history and excellent people, the Estes Park area is truly special.
